How To Inspect the Supply Line

The supply line ensures that water is properly delivered to the ice maker. If there are any issues with the supply line, such as kinks or leaks, it can affect the ice production. Follow these steps to inspect the supply line:

Caution:

Please read our safety information before attempting any testing or repairs.

Before disconnecting the water line, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard.

Steps to Inspect the Supply Line:

  1. Locate the Supply Line:
    • The water supply line is usually found behind the refrigerator. It is typically made of copper or plastic tubing.
    • The line connects to the water inlet valve located at the back of the refrigerator.
  2. Inspect the Line for Kinks or Pinches:
    • Starting from the inlet valve, carefully follow the tubing towards the water source (often under the kitchen sink or a valve plumbed in behind the freezer).
    • Look for any kinks, pinches, or bends in the tubing that may restrict the flow of water.
    • Straighten out any kinks or pinches you find. If the tubing is severely damaged, it may need to be replaced.
  3. Check for Leaks:
    • Inspect the entire length of the supply line for any signs of water leakage.
    • Look for water puddles or drips around the connections and along the tubing.
    • If you find any leaks, tighten the connections or replace the damaged section of the tubing.
  4. Inspect the Connection Points:
    • Ensure that the connections at both ends of the supply line (at the water source and the water inlet valve) are secure.
    • Use a wrench to gently tighten the connections if necessary, but be careful not to overtighten and damage the fittings.
  5. Reassemble and Test:
    • After ensuring the supply line is free of kinks, pinches, and leaks, plug the refrigerator back in.
    • Turn on the water supply and check the connections for any signs of leakage.
    • Allow the ice maker to run a cycle and verify that it is producing ice correctly.

Additional Tips:

  • If the supply line is old or appears worn out, consider replacing it with a new one to prevent future issues.
  • When replacing the supply line, ensure you use the correct type and size recommended for your refrigerator model.

By following these steps, you can ensure that the supply line is in good condition, allowing your ice maker to function properly.
